How to find the value of a missing measurement: Pythagorean Theorem.
For example, in this right triangle, where the value of a is 3, c is 6, and b is an unknown value.

So now we know that 9 + b2 = 36. To find the value of b2 we can subtract 9 from 36.
36-9 = 27
The square root of 27 is roughly 5.2. Therefore, we know that b=5.2.
We can check that this is right by using the completeted Pythagorean Theorem.
9 + 27 = 36 This is correct.
